The impact that Mensa made on others was remembered by friends of his:

“I remember his willingness to always help and lend a hand. His playful demeanor. His positive attitude and his love for those in his life. At camp he was one of the younger kids we gravitated to because of the many aspects of his good character.”

“We would see each other at camp and randomly run into each other at college basketball games. Thinking about it now makes me realize that I didn’t really get to know him as well as I could have, but it never stopped him from approaching me like I was his long lost friend, each time he saw me. He had a genuine openness about him, a willingness to learn, listen and a wisdom that extended beyond his years. He also had a child-like spirit of playfulness, a creative imagination, great planning skills and thorough follow through with those plans, of which most camp goers got a first hand experience with at Besserat camp. He had a demeanor about him that many gravitated towards and had a ‘full of life’ personality. Those are characteristics that are hard to find in just one person, but Mensa had them all.”
